The Quilts!!

I've had a very productive, fun few weeks designing and making my two patchwork quilts for a friends twin Goddaughters christenings! Here is a couple of pictures of the almost finished projects. I should be finished them in a few days and will post up more pictures and start on my tutorial for 'How to make a baby quilt'.

 Also...woohoo for May Day weekend! I ordered some of the fabric from a great company, Vintage Pretty, and due to problems with postage over the extra long weekend, they very kindly sent me a free fat quarter! A beautiful retro kids fabric. Also, went back to The Peacock and the Tortoise in Perth, and got some guidance and help with measurements etc. I highly recommend them, what a great shop, great fabric and to top it off, great service!

My first patchwork quilts!

Well, I've just been commissioned to make personalised handmade patchwork quilts for a friend of a friends twin girls!  I've not attempted one yet, but have been saving up lots of fabrics to do one for myself for a while now! 


Being asked to do these for the twins has made me very excited, and pushed me to get on and do it!! :) 

I've spent the last few days discussing and looking at fabrics that would suit, and we've found some lovely pinky ones (dots, some cute deer, ballerinas and lovely retro flowers pattern)! I've just ordered them, and got some lovely fleecy material for the backing, so now just have to wait for it all to arrive and get sewing! :) 

I'll keep you posted with my progress, I'm sure it will all go well - she doesn't want complicated ones, nothing too fussy, so we're going with simple squares, which is perfect for my first patchwork project! 

I've always loved patchwork quilts, and as a child I never had one (and always longed for one!), so this just a dream come true to think that I can make my very own, exactly how I want, with my chosen patterns etc! 

I'll put pictures up once it's done, and may add it to my website for future commissions!

Hi everyone! Thanks for viewing my blog. 

I used to sew when I was younger on my mums Janome machine, and I think the last thing I made was a great big beanbag (which is still going and in my living room!). 

At Christmas my mother-in-law very generously treated me to a new Janome machine, and it was like I'd never been away from it! After probably almost 15 years I've fallen back in love with creating lovely things from beautiful fabrics with my sewing machine! 

I started making things for myself and family, and after not long, I had people coming to me to make things for them. 

The dinosaur cushion was the result of my sister asking for some dinosaur themed furnishings for my nephews bedroom. I bought Prestigious Dinosaur fabric, and made a beanbag, two cushions, pencil case and laundry bag - and still have plenty scraps left to make some more! 

I decided that there was no harm in testing the waters and seeing if I could make some money out of a hobby (who wouldn't in this climate!). So I started up a website (www.ktcreations-handmade.co.uk), and also have a facebook page linked through this site. 

My plan is to make some things to sell, but hopefully take on commissions to personally design things for people. And so far it's going well, with 3 new commissions for birthdays, christenings and a couple of 'presents for yourself!'

I hope to keep the blog up to date with new projects and tutorials!

I have a wee stack of new fabrics!

Discovered a great newly opened shop in Perth last week. The Peacock and the Tortoise is a brand new fabric shop and haberdashery on George Street, it's full of designer fabrics in a beautifully decorated shop with a large room at the back for classes! I'm very excited about their classes starting in September for adults - including patchwork quilting!

I bought some lovely fat quarters of fabric, and they weren't too expensive!
The safari kids fabric is very cute and will be used for a little cushion for my nephew!
For a while now, I've been picking out small scraps for a patchwork quilt, and I love the green with white spots and the one above and left - I think this is called 'algae', perfect for a microbiologist's sewing projects! :)
Top right is aubergine piccolo - I love it! My plan is to use this to make a very funky oven glove and cloth set.

June Song by Alexander Henry (top) is my favourite bird fabric I've found to date. I made some lovely cushions and jewellery rolls with this (www.ktcreations-handmade.co.uk), and bought more as I couldn't resist! Not sure what i'll be using this for yet, but will keep you posted! The June Song also comes in a retro black or white with bright coloured birds (right). I may be buying some of this soon to make some lovely cushions!
